Thorn, an example of how technology can combat child abuse

Post by pappu857 »

“ Technology is not a force for good or evil. That decision is yours, as you are the force that tips the balance one way or the other.” With these words, popular actor Ashton Kutcher began his presentation at Dreamforce 2017 to talk about the Thorn project , of which he is co-founder.

During his participation in the event organized by Salesforce in the city of San Francisco (United States), Kutcher made it clear that in the technological universe everything depends on the use we want to give it.

He does not understand or share the social habit that has been generated with the rise of mobile devices of recording any kind of misfortune or accident that we encounter. In his opinion, these people should only use their devices to call emergency services and help these people. Never record them.

Regarding the various positive uses that can be made of technology, the actor has focused on philanthropy , specifically on the Thorn project, an initiative that fights to combat the sexual abuse of minors .

Technology has improved our daily lives in many ways. But, as with everything, we have a uruguay phone number negative and even dark side. The expansion of the Internet and the multiplication of devices, channels and platforms has resulted in a series of problems that we all have to fight against on the network of networks.

Ashton Kutcher has put the spotlight on child pornography , a “giant problem” that affects all societies. Thorn invests in research and tools to help numerous non-profit organizations that work to identify both victims and abusers.

An example of this is Thonr’s partnership with Twilio . Using Salesforce tools as a foundation, they created a text messaging service for The National Human Trafficking Hotline in 2013 .

A job that is yielding results according to figures provided by Kutcher: “We have identified 6,000 children who are suffering abuse, 12,000 adults who are also suffering from it and more than 6,000 abusers.”

Kutcher concluded his speech at Dreamforce 2017 by challenging attendees to stop being passive spectators of all the evils happening in the world.
