Holidays can be good opportunities for retailers and business owners to increase sales. In general, Christmas and Mother's and Father's Day are traditionally the most popular, with consumers eager to buy gifts and retailers expecting large sales volumes. But it's possible to create opportunities and innovate to maintain momentum throughout the year.
According to Artur Motta, professor of Entrepreneurship at the Fundação Escola de Comércio Alvares Penteado (FECAP), commemorative dates usually occur on average once a month, and the big secret to taking advantage of them is to start with promotion strategies in advance.
"These dates are significant for the market, and business owners should plan their actions well in advance. The next key date for commerce is Father's Day, for example. Children don't usually make impulse purchases; gifts are email list thought of days or weeks in advance. And even when it comes to services, such as a trip to a restaurant to celebrate the occasion, people tend to plan ahead and consider options before making a decision," adds Motta.
Below, the university professor lists some other tips to help business owners increase sales on special occasions.
Advertisements and promotions: Offers and products should be advertised well in advance to spark consumer interest and allow them to compare the product or service with competitors. Even when consumers make a purchase on the day of, the decision is usually made well in advance.
Invest in your loyal customers: Consumers who are already familiar with the product or service should be one of the entrepreneur's target audiences. To attract and further retain them, the entrepreneur can use social media communication and personalized campaigns via email or other contact channels.
