Secret Chats (End-to-End Encryption)

Post by roseline371274 »

When you initiate a "Secret Chat" on your Android device, it uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE). The cryptographic keys for these chats are generated and stored only on your Android phone and the recipient's device.
Crucially, Secret Chats initiated on your Android phone do not sync to Telegram's cloud or any other device linked to your account. If you lose your Android phone, the Secret Chat history on that device is irrecoverable from Telegram's servers. This design choice maximizes privacy by confining the data to the communicating devices.
Self-destructing messages, screenshot alerts, and no-forwarding rules for Secret Chats are all enforced by the Telegram Android app.
Media Upload/Download:

When you send media from your Android phone, Telegram handles the upload, often telegram data with compression options to save data. For downloads, it intelligently caches files on your device.
Privacy Settings Accessible from the Android App
The Android version of the Telegram app provides comprehensive privacy and security settings, allowing users to control their data and interactions:

Privacy and Security Section: Navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security within the Android app.
Identity Control:
Phone Number: Control who can see your number (Nobody, My Contacts, Everybody) and who can find you by your number.
Last Seen & Online: Hide your last seen timestamp and online status.
Profile Photos: Control visibility of your profile pictures.
Forwarded Messages: Prevent forwarded messages from linking back to your account.
Interaction Control:
Calls: Set who can call you. Crucially, you can also select "Nobody" for "Peer-to-Peer" calls, forcing calls to route through Telegram's servers and masking your IP address from the other party.
