What Putin told blogger Bumaga about YouTube slowdown in Russia

Post by monira444 »

Video blogger Vlad Bumaga asked during a live broadcast with the president on December 19 why YouTube is being slowed down in Russia. Vladimir Putin recalled that Google and YouTube themselves refused to comply with Russian laws.

"When Google created its network here, it also created subsidiaries, legal entities. Having created these subsidiaries, it worked with them. After the West began to impose sanctions, Google cut their funding, cut the supply of equipment, and created certain problems for itself. Google and YouTube must comply with our laws, avoid fraud on the Internet, and not abuse the Internet to achieve the goals of their owners," the president said.

He added that foreign companies simply need to comply with Russian laws and not try to engage in political manipulation to avoid problems.

Earlier, Minister of Digital Development Maksud Shadayev noted that chile mobile database domestic platforms are developing at a good pace.

Should You Use a VPN to Watch YouTube?

It is not recommended to use a VPN to watch YouTube, since most of these services leak personal data and access data to personal services, an expert in the field of IT and cybersecurity, the head of the company "Fors Technologies" Boris Kosarev told RIA Novosti.

“We do not recommend (using a VPN, ed.), since most VPN services ‘leak’ personal data and access data to personal services,” Kosarev said.

He recalled that YouTube blocks hundreds of Russian channels under a far-fetched pretext. On the other hand, one can see the promotion of channels that are aggressively disposed towards Russia.

"Any citizen who is dissatisfied with this measure should create a request to YouTube support service with a request to comply with Roskomnadzor's demands. "Fulfill Roskomnadzor's demand, return YouTube to us. Are you sure you are for freedom of speech?" - these are the kinds of requests to YouTube support service," the expert said.

Kosarev noted that the large number of requests would be a surprise for the owners of the Google corporation, which owns the YouTube service.

"After all, according to the heads of Google and YouTube, the majority of Russian citizens allegedly approve of blocking patriotic channels. Google must make sure that the majority of Russians want to watch content that presents different points of view," he concluded.
