The company is headquartered in the USA and data storage and processing are therefore not subject to German or European law. Companies can use WhatsApp for advertising purposes after obtaining permission from the app. The problem, however, is that WhatsApp accesses the address book in smartphones. This means that phone numbers of contacts who do not actually use the service are also passed on. This violates data protection. Either all contacts in the address book must have agreed to this, or companies can use a so-called " Exchange container " to prevent WhatsApp from synchronizing contact details and add the contacts manually to the app.
It is interesting to see that cloud software is often avoided in Germany due to data protection concerns, but employees use WhatsApp as the most commonly used smartphone app for work.
Software is the answer
