Preparing for editing includes a mandatory step - creating a backup copy. When fixing error 304, you need to export the part of the registry that is associated with the explanation of the code "Not changed" (for example, Windows Operating System):

Click the "Start" button.

Enter "command" in the search bar... DO NOT PRESS ENTER!

While holding down CTRL-Shift on the keyboard, press ENTER.

An access dialog box appears.

Click "Yes".


Type "regedit" and then press ENTER.

In Registry Editor, select the key associated with occupant resident lists error 304 (for example, Windows Operating System) that you want to back up.

In the File menu, select Export.

In the "Save in" list, select the folder where the backup copy of the Windows Operating System key will be sent.

In the "File name" field, enter the name of the backup file (for example, "Windows Operating System backup").

Make sure that the Export Range field is set to Selected Branch.

Click "Save". The file will be saved with the .reg extension.

A backup copy of the registry entry associated with error 304 (Not Modified) is ready.

Step 2: Scan your entire computer for malware
The Not Modified error may occur due to a computer infection with malware that damages or even deletes files associated with browser status codes. It is possible that the 304 error is related to a component of the malware itself.

Step 3: Clean your system from junk (temporary files and folders) using Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr)
The utility allows you to free your hard drive from junk that inevitably appears over time. Unnecessary files not only overload the memory, reduce the computer's performance, but can also cause an error with code 304.

Tip : cleanmgr is a great built-in tool, but it can't clean absolutely all temporary files from your computer. Even some Microsoft programs can't be cleaned, not to mention Chrome, Firefox, LiveMessenger, and hundreds of others.

The program will calculate how much disk space can be freed from unnecessary files.

The Disk Cleanup dialog box will open, where you need to select checkboxes, marking the categories to "clean up". Most often, the largest part of the disk is occupied by "Temporary files".

After checking the boxes, click “OK”.
