planning decision-making systemsThe Coordinator of the Official University Master's Degree in Integrated Logistics and International Trade at Bureau Veritas University Center, Nuria Fuente, talks to us in this post about the importance of decision-making in organizations.
The future of any organization will depend on the quality of the decisions made and these are determined by the managers.
The way in which decisions are made in organizations is very important , not only the decisions already made and their results, but also the form and internal procedure that has been followed to adopt the decisions and the entire subsequent process.
It is worth highlighting two problems that are fundamental in companies when making decisions and that must always be taken into account, these are:
The lack of conception of decision-making as a process .
In any organization, in practice, decisions are made based on twitter data what has been planned to be achieved ; information is provided and what is to be done is communicated, and even training is provided; responsibilities are assigned and managed; decisions are made based on existing information and experience; decisions are made on what to do and its execution is monitored and, if it does not work, other decisions are made and other actions are implemented with new people in charge.
To manage this process, some managers rely on tools that help them visualize existing information and facilitate statistical analysis of said data; these are business intelligence tools .
In any case, it should be noted that technology will help us do things, but it is the company's management that must decide how it wants to manage its decision-making , whether as an isolated event , dependent only on the manager's good judgment and intuition, or as a business process , with rules, and even procedures, that determine how decisions should be made in our organization.
Lack of planning of how you want to do it .
Below are important aspects that need to be taken into account when planning decision-making processes.
Establish the rules of conduct between strategic and day-to-day decisions.
Define how we are going to manage information, the Communication strategy .
Define how responsibilities are managed .
Define the desired degree of autonomy in decision-making.
Define how we want decisions to be made .
Finally, we should establish what treatment we want to give to the decisions taken.
Once the above aspects have been established, we can take the next step , which is to determine the technological support for our decision-making process management system.
Carrying out a prior process in our organization such as the one we have indicated above would prevent us from ending up, as usually happens, with a multitude of visualization and analysis systems, each with a different focus and objective, which ultimately neither serve to better manage the company nor to guarantee that decisions are made better than without the existence of these systems .
To solve these two problems (the lack of conception of decision-making as a process and the lack of planning of how it is to be carried out) it is necessary to highlight and insist on the need to consider decision-making as a process, and not as a one-off and isolated action , as well as the need to define how decision-making is to be carried out in the company.
