Substantial changes
It seeks to position the Environmental Management System at the centre of the organisational strategy. To this end, the following changes have been made :
Greater responsibility for management . Management is defined in more detail, to more strategically integrate the Environmental Management System into the organization's decision-making.
Life Cycle Approach. There is a requirement to consider environmental impacts throughout the Value Chain and consideration of Life Cycle issues.
Rethinking impact. Introduces the term “environmental condition” defined as “long-term environmental changes that may affect the organization’s activities, products and services, requiring adaptation.” The aim is to enable organizations to think about the impact of the environment on them, rather than the impact they have on it.
Risks and opportunities. There is a specific requirement to demonstrate how significant environmental risks and opportunities are managed throughout the Supply Chain. The organization shall demonstrate that it has established links between environmental issues, how they relate to the business and how the interfaces with the business are managed.
Proactive reporting. The organization should be proactive in providing external information on environmental issues and demonstrate greater control over how it uses and manages environmental data.
