5G base stations are planned to be installed at Moscow metro stations in 2023, Igor Shuvalov, head of the state corporation VEB.RF, told TASS.

"We hope to start installing them this year," Shuvalov told TASS after the exhibition, without specifying the names of the metro stations.

In turn, Dmitry Lakontsev, head of the NTI Competence Center for Wireless Communications and the Internet of Things based at Skoltech, who presented the base stations to Shuvalov and Matvienko, noted that "this year the first four metro stations should be equipped with 5G."

Later, in a conversation with TASS, he specified that for now the plan is to cover the platforms and pavilions at metro stations with the network. Lakontsev added that, most likely, this will be about new stations of the Moscow metro.
