"We call on Ursula von der Leyen to stand up for the EU and Slovakia in the dispute with Zelensky ," RIA Novosti quotes the statement as saying.
They said they were asking the EC to fulfil its responsibilities, which "arise from the fundamental treaties to protect the interests of member states."
The authors of the letter emphasized that they do not business owner database Zelensky’s decision to unilaterally stop gas transit, despite the agreements reached with the Ukrainian government on this issue.
The letter to von der Leyen was also signed by MPs from Germany, Austria , Hungary , Italy , the Czech Republic, Greece and Cyprus .
Let us recall that the agreement on the supply of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine expired on December 31. Kiev rejected the possibility of extending this agreement even for purchases by third countries.
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Bratislava would take the toughest measures against Ukraine if the problem with Russian gas transit is not resolved. He specified that the country could use its veto power in the EU on issues related to Ukraine.
