Last Thursday (18), a global cyber blackout caused significant interruptions to essential services in several parts of the world, including Brazil.
The event affected flights, banking, telecommunications and media, causing disruption for millions of people and thus highlighting the vulnerability of interconnected digital infrastructures.

The cyber blackout disrupted internet services and hampered financial transactions, as well as affecting live media broadcasts.

In Brazil, the blackout had significant impacts on several sectors:

According to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), most financial institutions have already normalized their services.
Flights : The blackout affected international and domestic flights. Five Azul flights departed from Brasília Airport with delays of more than 15 minutes. In addition, airports such as Afonso Pena, in Curitiba, and Goiânia also experienced delays.
Azul therefore recommended that customers arrive at the airport early to minimize disruptions caused by delays in the reservation management system.
Supreme Federal Court (STF) : The STF reported that the blackout affected its systems, leaving the website and other services inoperative in the early hours of the day. However, technical teams worked to restore services as quickly as possible.
Cause of the global cyber blackout
The flaw was attributed to a software update from CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company.
This is because the update presented incompatibility with older operating systems, resulting in service interruption.
