"YouTube itself brought us to the situation we see.

On September 24, 2024, at a press conference in Moscow, the head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, called Roskomnadzor's actions regarding the slowdown of YouTube correct and logical.

There were many warnings austria whatsapp number databa se addressed to them, many demands from Roskomnadzor, which the platform did not fulfill. This situation continued for years. Therefore, the sanctions are quite predictable and expected. In addition, the platform deliberately provoked our state and citizens, fueling interest in anti-Russian propaganda, blocking the channels of our bloggers, media and music performers," Ekaterina Mizulina outlined her position.

Leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin discussed the future of the platform in Russia: "Currently, YouTube is blocked on the networks of fixed-line operators. There is no court decision, no ban, but the blocking is visible to the naked eye, since the inclusion of means to bypass the blocking allows the platform to work. YouTube works selectively on mobile operators, but apparently the blocking continues, there is no rollback. Roskomnadzor has announced a tender for the purchase of equipment for almost 50 billion rubles over several years. It is needed, among other things, to block YouTube. Therefore, it is difficult to say for sure how the situation will develop further."

Denis Kuskov, CEO of the TelecomDaily news agency, does not believe that YouTube will resume operations in Russia: "The situation is difficult because no government agency can clearly state its position or comment on the situation. The situation was clearer with other social networks that the government had previously banned. It is more complicated with YouTube. It has a huge percentage of traffic among all platforms. And it is not possible to simply add it to the list of banned platforms. Unfortunately, instead of solving the issue, the boat is being rocked. In my opinion, closing the platform will not lead to anything good. Yes, it is bad that YouTube is blocking Russian channels. But if we completely close the platform, we will completely lose the ability to convey information on foreign platforms. I doubt that YouTube will resume operations in Russia as before, because a certain line has already been crossed. It is unlikely that Google and Roskomnadzor will be able to come to some kind of compromise."

Ekaterina Mizulina also admitted that there is no worthy replacement for YouTube in Russia yet: "YouTube remains the most popular video platform. Of course, if it is blocked, we need a worthy alternative. At the moment, I only see VK Video as such, which still needs to be greatly improved so that it is as high and high-quality as YouTube."
