60% of Spaniards aspire to have their own business, but only half of them actually achieve this goal. These are the main reasons they give for giving up on the idea.

There is no shortage of Spaniards with the intention of starting a business, but whether they end up making that desire a reality is another matter. Holded , a management software aimed at SMEs and entrepreneurs, has just published a study on entrepreneurship in Spain, with the participation of more than 2,200 self-employed people, business owners, salaried workers, private companies and civil servants, who assess their aspirations and limitations when it comes to starting a business.

The main conclusion is that 60% of the people surveyed aspire to have their own business, but only half of them achieve this goal. Why don't they do it?

Bureaucracy : In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas and Pontevedra, bureaucracy is perceived as the main obstacle to opening a business (77%, 75% and 72%, respectively).

Lack of resources: This is the main obstacle expressed by 47% of those surveyed. In cities such as Murcia, Albacete and Álava, the main reason is the lack of financial resources (62%, 61% and 59%, respectively).

Preference or need for a stable income. This is the reason that discourages 37% of entrepreneurs from starting a business.
