One final note. Pandey’s definition includes the term “quantum-safe.” I asked why it was included in the definition, and was told that if you are building the next generation of secure communications, then security must be future-proof. Including quantum-safe protocols ensures that quantum nodes are added to the infrastructure, and communications are secure even against “store now, decrypt later” attacks.
I've had with other security companies where their main concern with quantum computing is that attackers could steal data today and then use quantum technology to decrypt it in the future.
What are the risks of equipping a PC with artificial intelligence?
20.12.2024
Artificial intelligence capabilities are coming to the desktop — Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini with Project Jarvis, and Apple Intelligence are here (or are about to be here). Experts interviewed by Dark Reading discuss the risks involved.
AI has reached desktops.
Microsoft 365 Copilot, which debuted last year, is now bahamas mobile database available. Apple Intelligence just became available in beta for users of the latest Macs, iPhones, and iPads. And Google Gemini will reportedly soon be able to perform actions through the Chrome browser as part of an agent feature in development called Project Jarvis.
The integration of large language models (LLMs) that sift through business information and enable automated action scripting—so-called “agent” capabilities—offers great promise for knowledge workers, but also raises serious concerns among business leaders and chief information security officers (CISOs). Companies are already facing significant challenges with oversharing and failure to restrict access rights—according to Gartner’s “The State of Microsoft 365 Copilot: Survey Results,” 40% of companies have delayed Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption by three months or more due to such security issues.
The breadth of desktop AI capabilities combined with the lack of strong information security in many enterprises poses a significant risk, says Jim Alcove, CEO of Oleria, an identity and access management platform for cloud services.
