A Case for Media Policy

Post by asimj1 »

Only two stations have gone bankrupt so far: Giuseppe Scaglione's Radio 105 and, more recently, the TV channel Joiz. Both are media products aimed at a very young audience. This is anything but a coincidence. And that is why it is worth analyzing this fact today, when politicians are discussing a future media system.

Firstly, it is most difficult to reach young israel rcs data people through the media. All television stations know this, especially the public ones - with an average age that is moving further and further away from the 60-year mark. All attempts to stop the creeping aging of the population have failed so far, and not just in Switzerland, but also in Germany. There, ARD and ZDF are once again making a new attempt to reach young people, investing many millions. Even on the private stations, the average age continues to rise.

Something similar is happening on the radio. The former SRG youth channel, which was launched in 1983 as a "jamming station", now broadcasts a mainstream music program under the name SRF 3 that is hardly different from that of its private competitors. Because of the massive increase in average age, this program achieves high ratings, while the youth radio station Virus, which was added later, leads a wallflower existence.
