Find more environmentally friendly walking routes
Using data from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratory, Google is developing a new routing model that optimizes fuel efficiency based on factors like road gradient and traffic congestion. It’s all part of a commitment the company made last September to help people take steps to reduce their environmental impact. Soon, Google Maps will default to the lowest-carbon route if it has a similar arrival time to the fastest route. In cases where a more eco-friendly route would significantly increase your arrival time, the service will let you compare the relative CO2 impact of your route choices. Eco-friendly routes will be available in the U.S. on Android and iOS later this year, with other countries following suit.

From Amsterdam to Jakarta, cities around the world have created lithuania number data low-emission zones — areas that restrict the movement of polluting vehicles, such as diesel cars or cars with specific emissions stickers — to help keep the air clean. To support this work, Google is working on new notifications to help drivers better navigate when they’re navigating through these zones. Users will be able to quickly see if their vehicle is allowed in the area, choose an alternative mode of transportation, or take a different route. Low-emission zone notifications are rolling out this June in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom on Android and iOS, with more countries coming soon.

The company also introduced a new directions interface that makes it easier to choose route options when traveling on foot. of all the routes and modes of transportation available to your destination will be available. For example, it will be possible to compare how long it will take to get there by car, public transportation or bike without switching between tabs. Using advanced machine learning models, Maps will automatically determine the priority modes — and even show routes that are popular in your city. For example, if you ride a bike a lot, we will automatically show you more bike routes. And if you live in a city like New York, London, Tokyo or Buenos Aires, where subway use is popular, we will put that mode higher so that you get the information you need faster. This feature will be available in the coming months on Android and iOS.
