On the skin. One of the most gentle active ingredients is niacinamide 10%, I use it every morning. I most often prescribe it to patients in the form of a serum or tonic," says Alexandra Pashkova, dermatologist.
Vitamin B3 helps retain moisture in the skin, enhances the synthesis of ceramides - fatty acids. They form a lipid barrier and protect the skin from negative environmental factors.

Niacinamide is often included in emollients - super-moisturizing products from pharmacy cosmetic lines that are used in the treatment of atopic dermatitis, xerosis (pathological dryness), and psoriasis.

The Benefits of Urea: An Underrated Component in Cosmetics
Urea is a unique substance that is used in various fields: as a soil fertilizer and as a skin softener. It is part of human blood, not just urine, as you might think. Due to its unpleasant name, its benefits are underestimated.

Urea retains moisture inside the epidermis, meaning it moisturizes the skin well, preventing it from drying out and cracking.

This component is used in the composition of medicinal creams for very dry skin - for example, for the treatment of dry skin in diabetes, atopic dermatitis. The effect is especially well achieved in combination with oils (petroleum jelly, lanolin and others), which "cover" the skin, preventing moisture loss.

In a certain concentration (over 20%), urea helps remove self employed database hair and is included in depilatory creams and keratolytics (softening and exfoliating agents). The fact is that urea has the property of dissolving keratin, a protein that is part of hair, nails and the stratum corneum of the skin.

It is better not to apply products containing urea to damaged areas of the skin (for example, with cuts and other wounds) - it will sting and irritation may occur.

By softening the epidermis and removing horny cells, urea promotes better penetration of other beneficial substances into the skin. Therefore, it is often combined in creams with other actives.

Urea products may contain panthenol and ceramides for moisturizing and nourishing, enzymes and acids for exfoliation, retinol and vitamin C for skin renewal and rejuvenation. And together with niacinamide, urea works well in the treatment of acne, reducing the concentration of sebum. Scientific studies have shown that without urea, these active ingredients worked worse.
