Roskomnadzor (RKN) has banned search results for 11 foreign hosting providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), GoDaddy and DigitalOcean, as a coercive measure.
"Due to the fact that some foreign providers do not fulfill their obligations under the law on "landing", Roskomnadzor decided to take additional measures. A number of foreign hosting providers were banned from search results for information about the websites of these companies," the regulator said in a statement.
Amazon Web Services, Inc., afghanistan whatsapp resource GoDaddy.com LLC, Hetzner Online GmbH, Network Solutions, LLC, WPEngine, Inc., HostGator.com, LLC, Ionos Inc., DreamHost, LLC, Bluehost Inc. Kamatera Inc., and DigitalOcean, LLC.
Roskomnadzor recalled that on September 26, 2023, a decision was made to apply coercion to the aforementioned companies: search engines inform Internet users that these hosting providers are violating the requirements of Russian legislation.
A similar measure was introduced on September 26 against hosting provider FastComet, Inc. (fastcomet.com), which was also included in the list for "landing", but it is not mentioned in the regulator's current release.
Roskomnadzor reported that the above-mentioned hosting providers failed to fulfill the obligations stipulated by Article 5 of the law on "landing": register a personal account on the Roskomnadzor website, place a feedback form for Russian citizens and organizations, and create an authorized representative office in Russia.
"The measures taken will remain in effect until foreign hosting providers fully fulfill their obligations," the statement said.
