"The infrastructure for Europe and the underwater communication line Nakhodka - Busan (South Korea) are at the R&D stage in terms of international extensions," added Pavel Kolochkin.
"In the western direction, we have reached the border with Latvia, but have not yet crossed the border. We are confident in the prospects, despite the external context. Our kuwait whatsapp resource partner on the European side is a company with a similar business model, without state participation, which confirms plans for a connection at the Latvian border. In the Asian segment - after Kyakhta on the border with Mongolia - our Mongolian partner will provide us with an extension to the border with China. In China, we land on the infrastructure of three main Chinese telecom operators," said Pavel Kolochkin.
According to the Director of Development of Atlas LLC, Vsevolod Korzhaev, Atlas is not developing the North-South route - for now, shareholders have invested in the East-West route.
"In 2012, Rostelecom launched the EPEG (Europe - Persian Gateway) project - these are transit channels in the North-South direction (Europe - Iran - Oman - Persian Gulf). But this direction did not take off, probably for two main reasons: because of the sanctions imposed on Iran, which reduced the interest of potential clients in this transit direction, and slightly different main interests of the EPEG consortium participants, which prevented them from offering a flexible commercial model," recalled Vsevolod Korzhaev.
The CEO of the Inoventica group of companies, Vitaly Slizen, noted that the private Voronezh-based JSC Quantum Telecom, at its own expense, implemented a project to create a fiber-optic communication line from Moscow to Iran and the Persian Gulf - a total of about 3,000 km.
"The main direction for Atlas is the construction of a line to South Korea and its connection with Europe. When we have this line, we will have achieved the main goal in the international direction. TEA NEXT will have no competitors either through the Arctic Ocean or through the Red Sea. We will be able to offer a solution with a price 40% lower than alternatives on the international market," said Vsevolod Kozhaev.
When Vitaly Slizen asked whether Atlas clients would be able to order fibers from Korea to Amsterdam in Moscow, Vsevolod Korzhaev answered in the affirmative.
"If you look at the main communication channels in the Russian Federation, then up to the border the channel is usually owned by a Russian communication operator, and beyond the border - by a partner. "Atlas" plans to own the entire cable line longitudinally. This will avoid a situation where a foreign partner sets the rules," noted Vitaly Slizen.
Vsevolod Korzhaev added that Atlas will not be able to become the owner of optical channels on Chinese territory - in China, only the "big three" national operators (China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile - ComNews note ) have a license for cross-border transitions. "But we will be able to offer fiber to Seoul," Vsevolod Korzhaev emphasized.
