According to the official statement of the Roscosmos State Corporation, the postponement is due to "the need for additional software checks, as well as clarification of the additional research program."

According to a source from the MASHNEWS Industrial News portal, the delay is also due to problems with the supply of batteries from Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR): the batteries did not pass the incoming inspection.

"As for Marathon, unfortunately, there was a certain delay. I believe that the first two Marathon devices will be launched by the end of 2024," said Pavel Cherenkov, CEO of JSC Gonets Satellite System, at the demo day of the Satellite Communications Industrial Competence Center, which took place in April 2024.
