Half Marathon: Roscosmos Found Money for Half of the IoT Marathon Group

Post by tanjimajuha20 »

There is another satellite Internet of Things project in Russia - Telum LEO: its initiator was the company "Zond-Holding". As Andrey Gritsenko, CEO of JSC "ICC "Severnaya Korona", found out, the application for the Telum LEO 1 system was submitted to the Radiocommunication Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on June 20, 2022. The application includes 152 spacecraft (at one of three altitude levels: 385 km, 585 km or 1500 km above the earth's surface). Viktor Doniants, CEO of JSC "Zond-Holding", drew the attention of the ComNews correspondent that the LoRa technology, on which the new PNST is based, is not universal. He noted that the tasks associated with the deployment of Internet of Things technologies are complex, and "attempts to oversimplify them can lead to disastrous consequences." What IoT technology the initiators of the Telum LEO project intend to use is still unknown.

Another orbital tunisia whatsapp resource group for the Internet of Things is planned to be deployed by the Russian Sputniks LLC, controlled by the Sitronics Space company: it will consist of 157 small and ultra-small spacecraft. Sputniks has chosen the LoRaWAN IoT technology. Vladislav Ivanenko, CEO of Sputniks LLC, said from the podium of the #SpaceCom Digital Russia 2022 conference: "The operation of LoRaWAN technology for the satellite Internet of Things has been successfully tested in spacecraft in orbit. Satellites with this technology can be launched to receive and transmit data in the transport and mining industries, as well as to search for and rescue people."

In September 2023, Roscosmos State Corporation signed a contract with Reshetnev JSC to create 132 satellites of the IoT Marathon system. In total, this group should include 264 devices.

Roscosmos has halved the size of the IoT Marathon satellite constellation: yesterday, the state corporation signed a contract with JSC Reshetnev to produce more than 130 IoT Marathon spacecraft, rather than the previously planned 264. Roscosmos has thus agreed on the final configuration of the satellites, although the operator of this IoT network has not yet been appointed.

However, the deployment dates of the group have shifted slightly. The launch of the first Marathon IoT device was planned for the end of February 2024, as a secondary payload together with the Meteor-M 2-4 hydrometeorological device, but has been postponed indefinitely. According to the official statement of the Roscosmos State Corporation, the postponement is due to "the need for additional software checks, as well as clarification of the additional research program."

According to a source from the MASHNEWS Industrial News portal, the delay is also due to problems with the supply of batteries from Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR): the batteries did not pass the incoming inspection.

"As for Marathon, unfortunately, there was a certain delay. I believe that the first two Marathon devices will be launched by the end of 2024," said Pavel Cherenkov, CEO of JSC Gonets Satellite System, at the demo day of the Satellite Communications Industrial Competence Center, which took place in April 2024.
