Delhi government said the nation’s Computer Emergency Response Team had received many “ tip-offs from citizens regarding data security and privacy breaches affecting public order issues . ”

“ The collection of this data is undermining India’s national security and defence.” The complaints themselves are said to be aimed at the misuse of user data in these apps, specifically to steal and transmit it in an unauthorised manner to servers outside India.

Job cuts at TikTok
The popular short-video app has been quick to announce that it will be cutting its workforce in India after “not being given clear direction on how and when our apps could be restored.” As a TikTok indonesia business email database spokesperson explained in a statement, “It is deeply regrettable that after supporting our 2,000+ employees in India for over half a year, we have no choice but to reduce the size of our workforce.”

"We continually strive to ensure our apps comply with local laws and regulations, and we do our best to address any concerns you may have," a TikTok spokesperson told CNN. "It is therefore disappointing that in the subsequent seven months, despite our efforts, we have not been given clear direction on how and when our apps might be reinstated."
