Identification of unknown numbers is available

is activated via the T2 application and is available to owners of smartphones on iOS and Android operating systems. It will allow subscribers to identify unwanted incoming calls in messengers, including fraudulent ones. When an incoming call comes from an unknown contact, the T2 application identifies the potential target of the call.

to all subscribers of germany telegram the operator who have installed its mobile application. More than 20 million clients use it monthly. Subscribers can activate the number identifier in the "Voice assistant and antispam" section. Clients with devices on the Android operating system will need to give the T2 application additional permissions for the identifier to work in messengers.

Similar services are also available from other mobile operators. Andrey Biychuk, Director of the "Defender" product from PJSC Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), recalled the service for MTS subscribers: "We launched the function of identifying unwanted incoming calls in Telegram, WhatsApp and Viber back in the summer of 2023. The functionality is available free of charge for all users of the "Defender" service, including subscribers of other operators. When receiving a call from an unknown number, the identifier informs about its possible purpose. The analysis is based on MTS Big Data technologies. At the moment, the share of fraudulent calls in messengers is insignificant compared to phone calls."

"Our virtual assistant Eva determines the category of the caller for free, that is, the client will be informed about the purpose of the call. Eva will also answer the call for the subscriber if he is busy, and protect against subscriptions on the Internet. In 2023, we extended the function of determining the category of the caller from regular calls to calls in the main messengers. Now this function is absolutely free of charge available to all Apple users, and after analyzing the demand for the service, we will decide on its further use on other operating systems for smartphones," said a representative of the press service of PJSC MegaFon.

Pavel Kuznetsov, Director of Strategic Alliances and Government Relations at Garda Group, gave an assessment of such services: "Caller ID services have been on the market for a long time and have earned well-deserved popularity. It should be noted that they are implemented both at the level of individual applications and at the level of mobile operating systems. Of course, they are not a "silver bullet" that provides 100% protection, but they allow you to at least get rid of those scammers who either do not have the resources to change numbers and identifiers in messengers, or simply neglect such a change. An additional advantage of using such services is protection from classic spam, obsessively offering various services and goods."

Andrey Mishukov, CEO of JSC Infozashchita (iTPROTECT), noted some nuances in the service's operation: "The main mechanics of the T2 function is to compare the attacker's nickname with the data in the operator's knowledge base. However, for example, in Telegram you can hide or change your nickname. Therefore, it will not be possible to identify the fraudster in 100% of cases. At the same time, such activities definitely increase users' protection from advertising or fraudulent calls."
