In 2008, Microsoft tried to get Yahoo! to give up control of its company in a deal valued at $8 billion (5.6 billion euros), or $35 per share. The companies will now carry out a partial merger with no cash outlays or loss of board autonomy.

Following the announcement of the bank data agreement by which Microsoft's search engine, Bing , will become part of Yahoo!'s machinery, so that the latter can concentrate on selling associated advertising and content, Yahoo! remains a company, but loses its web spiders.

The "Microho" duo claims it will increase Microsoft's revenue by $1 billion and Yahoo!'s by $500 million each year, something the software giant appears to have guaranteed the search engine in writing.

However, not all that glitters is gold and it is likely that all these changes can be seen in what Google decided to do, in order to appeal to the antitrust authorities to denounce the merger for unfair competition.
