The US Justice Department has called for improvements to the agreement between Google and publishers over the Google Books project. The department has cited intellectual property rights and unfair competition concerns.
The US justice system has not completely rejected the programme for 99 acres data digitising and selling books online, but it has asked for improvements to be made to the initial agreement.
The improvements should be made in particular with regard to the objections raised by European publishers and the possibilities of access to digital books by competitors. The next hearing on this case will take place on 7 October.
