A few months ago, we witnessed the withdrawal of a large group of advertisers from both YouTube and the Google advertising network. The reason was the appearance of their campaigns alongside videos with violent content or related to religious extremism.

The search giant was then in a race against time to stem the drain of advertisers . Google was quick to launch new policies and tools to give advertisers greater control over where their ads appear.

But YouTube has gone a step further with a gesture that, championed by goodwill to attract agencies and brands to its platform, has not ended up going the way it expected.

According to data published by the Financial Times , YouTube has reportedly offered at least three advertisers who removed their advertising refunds for what happened, amounting to around three dollars .

Advertisers have remained anonymous and Google has declined to comment . It has belgium phone number referred to its policies: “When someone repeatedly violates our ad policy, we cancel the account, give credit to our advertisers, and do not pay the creator of the content or video .”

According to these policies, when cases like these occur, advertisers can request a credit from Google for the amount of money they invested . If we take into account the figure at which these alleged compensations have been set, we would be talking about a fairly low number of impressions.

“The idea of offering these refunds is not the most ideal, but the truth is that Google has a responsibility to offer them ,” said Rob Norman, digital director of WPP .

It is worth noting that YouTube has made significant progress in recent times in removing extremist content from the platform in an attempt to win back advertisers.
