Live what we are living? or tell what we are living?

Imagine, Friday 29th November, thousands of people gather in the streets of central Malaga to wait for Antonio Banderas, together with the authorities of Malaga and the Andalusian Government, to press the “red button” that turns on one of the most eagerly awaited Christmas lights.

Specifically, Calle Larios attracts the special attention of locals and foreigners, who await the spectacle of the “Christmas forest” in this enclave, with 22 semicircular arches made up of 730,000 points of light.

So far so good, it is commendable that people “crowd” to see this type of show, but you only have to study this image to ask yourself the question that is the title of this article:

Live what we are living? or tell what we are living?
With the arrival of social media, a human quality has become more pronounced and is beginning to be worrying… Does our species need to generate envy? Yes, I know, you will tell me that we do not do it with that purpose, but spend some time on the Instagram, Facebook, etc. accounts of your friends and you will see that hashtags such as:

Among many other “HT” , feelings of iran telegram data telling what we are doing, how much fun we are having, a “I'm telling you because you're not here” emerge …

But they haven't answered my question yet…

Live what we are living or tell it?

Personally, I would tell them to live it, because if not, it will be enough to be warm on their sofa and put on the latest story of that friend that they know is going to go. I would tell them that if they go to a concert, live it because if not, it will be enough to put their coolest song on YouTube . I would tell them to live it because the reminiscence is much more appreciated than any content, ephemeral or not, that you upload to social networks.

Those who follow me on social media know that I am the first to usually count my steps, not all of them, but many. But I will also tell you that even on most occasions I do not count them live, I prefer to live the event and then, after a while, the next day, etc., post it. A clear example was the presentation of the Granada Marketing Club a few days ago ; I lived the entire event in a completely face-to-face way, and I only posted on Instagram when I was already on my way back home.

It is good to tell about our experiences, to tell about how we move around places, how we eat delicious dishes in dream restaurants, how we travel to paradise islands (the Canary Islands are very close), but what I am saying in this article is that we should try to enjoy “real time” much more than we are used to.

We want to immortalize the moment with our devices, but be careful, not to save it as we would do in our mind, but to share it, so that the rest of our friends know how much fun we are having, how great we are eating, what trip I am taking or what cool concert I am seeing. And you know what? If we are telling it in strict “real time” , our food will surely get cold, we will not enjoy it as well because those around us will suffer from our “reporter syndrome” , we will even forget that moment sooner rather than later because we trust more in an ephemeral story than in the lasting history of our infinite memory.
