Europe versus the US and China: Preventing Decline in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"

Authors: Andrés Pedreño and Luis Moreno

"The old continent is losing strength and global influence, moving further away from being a powerhouse in the economy of the future. Preventing the technological and economic decline that Europe is approaching is possible, but it will require timely political, business, and social decisions," the authors assert.

This is a descriptive book, but also a proactive one.

The first part provides an exhaustive analysis of the reasons phone number list why Europe is not a digital leader and is technologically dependent. These include the fragmentation of the European digital market, limited budgetary capacity, and a lack of interest in developing joint action plans within the European Union.

“During the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s, strategic plans emerged in almost all advanced economies to exploit the advantages of the Internet. But not all dedicated the same effort to deepening their ICT development. The US marked early differences with the EU's hard core, whose commitment and investment in digital assets proved to be slow and less solvent,” the authors criticize. In 2009, the European Commission itself acknowledged in its report “Web 2.0: Where does Europe stand?” the weak business situation of the EU in the ICT sector and the urgent need to propose common policies to boost the digital sector.

This loss of competitiveness is leading Europe to a very difficult labor market scenario, as Pedreño and Moreno warn: "As Asia, and even Latin America and Africa, make inroads into increasingly advanced industries, the survival of traditional sectors in European economies will be seriously jeopardized, which will limit the possibility of job creation."

The second part of the book sets out a series of ideas, actions and policies to reverse this situation, based on the idea that investing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the only way out of the future problems of well-being, wealth and employment that Europe faces .
