Young photographer Volodya Oreshnikov wins 10 thousand rubles. But to buy a ticket, he took money from the mutual aid fund, and so his colleagues from the photo studio call him to a public trial. This film was the main New Year's film for Soviet citizens before "The Irony of Fate...". The story unfolds in the family of a master of the knitwear factory Korobov. On December 31, the elder Korobovs fuss about making the holiday no worse than everyone else's. The young members of the family do not care about household chores, everyone has their own opinion and their own life, and no one is going to celebrate the New Year with their parents. Upset by the departure of their children, the old people are left alone. But the New Year is a magical holiday and a family one, so the youth eventually return.

They hate each other in real life, but are in love in correspondence. The film is cozy, funny and with a necessarily happy ending.
