Gartner Vice President Daryl Plummer outlined the disruptive advances in digital transformation that could catch CIOs off guard, InformationWeek reports .
Be like Apple, not like Kodak. Years ago, Kodak pioneered digital photography. But instead of trying to corner the market by displacing the incumbents, Kodak decided to invest in its traditional business and bought a chemical company to make conventional film. Other companies entered the digital photo market. Then came digital video colombia mobile database and devices with built-in cameras. Kodak chose the wrong path.
Apple decided to develop and market the iPhone, undermining its successful MP3 player, the iPod. It turned out to be the right decision.
These examples were cited in a speech at the recent Gartner IT Symposium by Daryl Plummer, vice president, analyst and chief distinguished fellow at Gartner. How can we follow Apple's path rather than Kodak's?
"Securing your future means being prepared for what's going to happen. Then, even if you don't know what's going to happen, you can adapt," Plummer said.
What unexpected changes might soon occur? Plummer named the following.
1. Identification of emotions
Today, inexpensive sensors can read physical biometric data, and organizations are working to deliver highly personalized digital experiences. Gartner predicts that by 2024, more than half of the online ads served to a specific person will be determined by emotion-detection AI.
This technology will find application not only in marketing, but also, for example, in HR for employee evaluation.
