It was in the air: The unusual chainsaw attack by an eccentric who had lived in the forest for weeks and targeted employees of an insurance company in the old town of Schaffhausen had all the prerequisites for a media hype. This unusual story made it to the front pages of the international media.

In this case, I was particularly interested in the crisis communication of the Schaffhausen police. Not only because the suspected perpetrator had lived not far from our house for weeks. I have been belarus rcs data following the behavior in the event of surprises and crises in front of the microphone and camera for years. When training leaders in stressful situations, practical examples are helpful in making them aware that the same mistakes are made again and again when unexpected incidents occur:

- crisis communication does not take place

- there is no one speaking with one voice

- Facts are swept under the carpet

- it is glossed over

Factually and without assumptions: Media spokesperson Cindy Beer provides information to the media on Monday. (Image: Video still 20min.ch)

In Schaffhausen, media spokesperson Cindy Beer was in the spotlight. In all the appearances that I followed, it can be said that she did a very good job. As an example, I quote her answers from July 25, 2017.
