Vasily Fonar, head of construction digitalization at Sber, has been working with information modeling for over 10 years. During this time, he went through a design institute and customer service, interacted with construction contractors and operational services. In other words, he managed to get acquainted with various aspects of information modeling at all stages of the life cycle of investment projects, including industrial and civil facilities.

In this article, we will share his experience and views on using BIM without traditional CAD systems, which he spoke saudi arabia phone number about at the July BIM breakfast, and also talk about how Sber implemented information model management based on data, not graphics.

Origins of the Information Model
When we talk about an information model, it is important to understand that each participant in the process can interpret this term in their own way. For a CAD specialist, it is one thing, for a builder, another, and for a customer, a third. However, everyone agrees on one thing: an information model is a structured representation of data about an object, its physical and functional characteristics.

Interestingly, the term “information model” appeared long before systems like AutoCAD, Revit or ArchiCAD. It comes from computer science and implies a structured representation of data that can be expressed in various forms (including Revit or Navisworks files).

What is Building Information Modeling (BIM)?

One of the important aspects that the expert drew attention to is the change in the value of information at different stages of the project life cycle. At the design stage, the main focus is on geometry: priority is given to the automated release of documentation, collision checks, and the use of the graphical component for making design decisions.

When the project enters the construction stage, many related systems appear, such as KSP (delivery time control) and MTO (material and technical support). At this point, the value of attribute information increases. At the stage of operation of the facility, the key role is played by current data, and the graphic component becomes secondary.
