The latest apps and almost all social networks are now fully geared towards it: square video. And that's not surprising, square (1:1) videos get more interaction and views than rectangular (16:9) videos. But... why?
Have you noticed that many popular video creators have switched to square video ? Mainly on networks like Facebook, LinkedIn and of course Instagram, square videos are being used a lot instead of landscape or portrait videos. Videos with a square format are completely replacing the rectangular versions.
Square videos have more engagement, more views, and more reach than the exact same videos in a horizontal or vertical format. In the video below I show you how this is possible:
Square video larger in screen
Square videos are currently mainly used for target groups that play videos on mobile devices. On a mobile phone, a square video takes up 78% more space in your screen than a landscape video. A square video has a higher probability of standing out, because it is much larger in the screen than a horizontal video.
Square video = always good
How many times do you have to turn your new zealand whatsapp number mobile to see a video properly, from horizontal to vertical or the other way around? With a square video, you don't have to. No matter how you hold your mobile (landscape or portrait), a square video always takes up the same amount of space and is always clearly visible.
The future?
Social networks are busy experimenting with square video. Facebook, LinkedIn and of course Instagram have already fully responded to the use. Popular apps such as ' Clips ' from Apple and editing software such as 'Filmora' from Wondershare are also responding to square video. Even YouTube's mobile app will very soon support all types of video formats . That means: no more black bars next to a vertical video (wow!) and of course square video is also supported.
Does your target group mainly watch your videos on mobile? Then it could certainly be interesting to experiment with square videos. I myself have also completely switched to square videos on LinkedIn and Facebook, and the videos of Frankwatching are now all square. So far with good results! What are your findings? Let me know in the comments.
Clumsy elephants trying to make fast, smooth movements. Most of the time, it goes wrong or looks ridiculous. Yet, that is the situation that many large companies now find themselves in. How do you teach these organizations to become more agile, so that they are better prepared for the future.
