Reddit is a social news aggregation website founded in 2005 by Alexis Ohanian colombia phone number data and Steve Huffman. They were college roommates and attended a lecture by programmer Paul Graham during their spring break from college. After the lecture, Graham invited them both to attend his class called “Y Combinator.” Their first idea was My Mobile Menu, intended to let users order food via text message, which was launched during this period but was not successful. While brainstorming for another startup, they came up with another idea. This time, Graham called it the “front page of the internet.” After the success of this idea, Ohanian and Huffman were accepted into Y Combinator’s inaugural class. After receiving Y Combinator’s support and funding, Huffman and Ohanian worked together to launch Reddit in June 2005. The site started out as a blank slate, prompting the founders to create hundreds of fake users to post to make the site appear active and populated.

In November 2005, Christopher Slowe joined the team. In January 2006, Reddit acquired Aaron Swartz's company Infogami. In October 2006, Huffman and Ohanian sold Reddit to Condé Nast Publications for approximately $10 million before moving to San Francisco. However, in 2009, Ohanian and Huffman left Reddit. Erik Martin, the community manager in 2008, became general manager in 2011 and accelerated Reddit's growth. Martin kept the site running and helped purchase Reddit Gifts. He also led many charitable initiatives.
