You can get to know the employer better than through an online advert – you can ask about everything that interests you, but you can also present yourself live, face to face , from the best side. I would say that I felt similar to a traditional job interview, but without unnecessary stress. Thanks to the recruitment meeting as part of the Talent Match programme, which I had during the Talent Days fair, I noticed that I get along great with the people from UPM and... I knew right away that I wanted to work there!
TALENT DAYS: Sound crypto users number data
great! Especially since the job found you by itself – without having to send hundreds of CVs. Let's move on to the moment when you already received and accepted the UPM offer. What was the onboarding process like in the new workplace?
ASIA: Before my first official day at work, I came to the office to meet the whole team. I thought this was a great opportunity because I could see who I would be working with right from the start. My first days at work were mostly training sessions – mostly in English, because UPM is an international company and we communicate mainly in English. I really enjoyed the training sessions, I learned a lot of new things and thanks to them I felt ready to start my own business.
TALENT DAYS: It's great that you were able to get to know the company and your team so early on. And so far , how have your first few months been?
ASIA: I always get help if I need it. I am in constant contact with my teammates and when I am not sure about something, there is always someone to help me. Everyone teaches me new duties and makes sure that I feel good and confident in my work. Another great solution is the so-called Buddy , another experienced employee who supports me in making decisions. We also have team building meetings - this gives us a chance to get to know each other better as a team. This is also super cool for me!
TALENT DAYS: It's great that you can integrate like that! And having some experience, what would you say to other young people who are starting to look for their first job? Do you have any protips , tips?
ASIA: In my opinion, it's great to try a summer job or a part-time job to start with. I've worked in both catering and customer service, which helped me find out what suits me best. I also recommend watching various industry videos or podcasts, reading articles about career development, because that way you can delve deeper into the subject and decide what you want to do in life.
It's also important to believe in yourself. For example, I didn't feel comfortable with English - I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. The reality turned out to be different! If I had stuck to the idea that I wasn't very good at it, I probably wouldn't have dared to apply. Now I know that it's always worth trying and not getting discouraged. In my opinion, the most important thing is to be determined - that's the perfect starting position!
TALENT DAYS: Sure! We also believe that a positive attitude and belief in your own abilities are the foundation. Many thanks for the conversation and we wish you continued success!
As you can see, employers are not as scary as they are “painted” on the internet! Many of them make sure that so-called new joiners are provided with appropriate support and a friendly atmosphere at the start (and not only).
And how exactly does it look like at UPM – the company that Asia joined? Our (and maybe your) questions will be answered by Sylwia Szewczyk – Senior HR Specialist at UPM.
A few words from the employer
TALENT DAYS: Hi Sylwia! It's great that together we can dispel the doubts of young people about looking for a job. But first, tell us why it was Asia who caught your attention at the job fair?
